Abstract

These close studies of natural surfaces propose that the most compelling abstract imagery does not need to be invented, only found and framed with sufficient care and attention. Peeling birch bark, fractured water reflections, and dense masses of iris leaf each yield, under close examination, visual structures of genuine complexity, patterns of light, shadow, repetition, and variation that exist entirely on their own terms once color is removed. For collectors drawn to work that bridges the natural and the abstract, this series offers a sustained and technically consistent investigation of the visual richness hiding in plain sight.
